Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has disclosed that government has allocated an amount of $3million to start the Yendi water project.
He said the water situation in the area was a peculiar challenge which the Akufo-Addo administration intends to resolve anytime soon.
Dr Bawumia noted that government had reduced the price of fertiliser to ensure affordability for farmers in order to increase yield. He also re-echoed that the free Senior High School policy would be implemented in the next academic year beginning September 2017.
He made the comments at the Gbewa Palace at Yendi on Thursday, May 18 when he met with the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani on day one of his tour of the Northern Region.
Dr Bawumia said it had also initiated plans to upgrade the Dagbon State Technical School into a modern institute.
He also reiterated that the Planting for Food and Jobs programme will help farmers in the area immensely.
Dr Bawumia admonished traditional authorities, elders, and opinion leaders of the area to embrace peace. In his view, peace is the bedrock of development and, for that matter, Dagbon cannot receive their share of the national resources if they are in conflict.
Meanwhile, Regent of Dagbon Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani commended government for allocating funds to work on the water project of the Yendi municipality.
According to the regent, the Northern Region is basically a farming area and, therefore, government should ensure the development of farming.
He also seized the opportunity to urge his subjects to change their attitudes and embrace peace and commended the security for ensuring sanity in the area.
Members of Parliament for Tolon, Savelugu, Nanton, Wulensi, Salaga, and Saboba as well as the Northern regional Minister, Salifu Sa-eed, and other ministers of state such as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Deputy Energy Minister, DCEs, and other officials were present at the event.
