Nana Yaw Akwadah, Executive Secretary of the Bureau of Public Safety, has called on individuals and institutions in the country to start suing the state for failing to ensure institutions and organisations comply with safety regulations.

He said it is only when the state is punished by the court that safety regulations will be implemented strictly.

His comments come in the wake of the gas explosion that occurred at Atomic Junction in Accra on Saturday, October 6.

The explosion killed at least seven people and injured 132 others who are being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.

Commenting on this development on Multi TV on Monday, October 9, Mr Akwadah said one of the cause of disaster is “our inability to sue the state”.

“Lawyers must take up the injured and the dead and sue the state,” he said, adding: “We should see some improvement in the way things are done in this country.”
