Government is expected to launch the restoration of allowances for nurse trainees in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo, today, Tuesday, 10 October 2017.

The restoration of the allowances was one of the key campaign promises of then-presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo after they were cancelled by the Mahama administration.

The President in July this year announced the restoration of the allowances.

Justifying the need for a ceremony to launch the restoration, Health Minister Kweku Agyemang-Manu told Class News: “Our president, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his campaign mentioned that he has seen the difficulties nurses and teacher trainees were going through, therefore, if Ghanaians will give him the nod he will reintroduce these allowances, and, so, I don’t see why you think its [launch is] not necessary,” he stated.

“We are launching to demonstrate to Ghanaians that the government has honoured its promise. We don’t want to hide in a room somewhere, pay the allowances and then that is the end of it, no. Ghanaians should know what we are doing, we should communicate the good works of our president and that is why we are launching. People are happy and they want to jubilate about it and we want them to jubilate about it,” he added.
