HFC Bank (Ghana) Limited in partnership with its Parent company, Republic Financial Holdings limited has successfully hosted the maiden 3-day Caribbean Trade Mission to Ghana summit which came off on the 26 – 28 September at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra. The Summit was under the theme ‘Promoting Trade and Investments – Ghana and the Caribbean’.

The Trade Mission saw delegates from renowned institutions from Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Suriname connecting with Ghanaian businesses for trade and investment discussions. The delegation from the Caribbean was led by the Chairman of the Board, of Republic Financial Holdings Ltd (RFHL) Ronald Harford, Executive Directors, Derwin Howell and Roopnarine Oumade Singh.

Speaking at opening session of the summit, the Honorable Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, Mr. Ahomka-Lindsay, underlined some strategic measures that the Government of Ghana is using to boost the economy. Mr. Yoofi Grant, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre also spoke convincingly on business opportunities within key sectors of the economy. An engaging discussion on legal regimes in Ghana was facilitated by Ashong Benjamin & Associates whiles PWC Ghana led the discussion on the Tax regime in Ghana. The Petroleum Commission also made an insightful presentation on the Oil and Gas Sector in Ghana.

The Delegation paid a courtesy call on the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Flagstaff House. Interacting with the delegation, President Akufo-Addo reiterated Government’s commitment to building a robust economy anchored on a strong private sector. He said his government had initiated policies geared towards facilitating business and industrial growth and positioning Ghana as the most business and people-friendly economy on the continent.

The leader of the Caribbean Delegation, Mr. Ronald Harford was full of praise of the Government of Ghana for the private sector initiatives and also, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the maiden Caribbean Trade Mission summit. The Acting Managing Director of HFC Bank Ghana, Mr. Anthony Jordan was also pleased with the outcome and made a commitment to set up a Caribbean Trade Desk at HFC Bank for the purposes of promoting Trade and Investment between Ghana and the Caribbean. According to the Acting Managing Director, HFC Bank Ghana would soon be rebranded Republic Bank Ghana after approval is obtained from the relevant authorities and wants to be seen as the Caribbean Gateway; promoting the Caribbean business in Ghana and Ghana in the Caribbean.

At the Trade Mission Networking Cocktail event, the Honorable Minister for Business Development, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, expressed his appreciation to Republic Bank and HFC Bank for organizing the Trade Mission. He reiterated the Presidents’ commitment to promoting national and international business facilitation which he said led to the establishment of his Ministry.

Other key personalities who were present at the event were the Honorary Consul of Trinidad and Tobago in Ghana, Mr. Hilton John Micthell, the Acting High Commissioner of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Nigeria, Mr. Garth Lamsee, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Zimbabwe, Mr. Eric Odoi-Anim, the Chairman of HFC Board, Board members and the Executive Management of the Bank.
