Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur, has said he was shocked to hear he was nominated for this years’ Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards in the United States of America.

Speaking with Natalia Andoh, host of Touch of Class on Class91.3FM on Wednesday, 11 July 2018, Kwesi said: “The first time I saw the invite, I thought someone was playing with me, so, I didn’t take it seriously, I had to go off and later I got so many congratulatory messages.

“I had to check the BET International official page and I was like: ‘what! This is crazy’. I’ve been nominated for the BET awards because I had watched the BET awards a year ago, two years ago, I would ask boys if they had downloaded it so I could watch.

“But for the first time I got to watch it for myself, I was there to watch live performances, it was crazy. My experience at the BET was fun, I was exposed to a whole new culture.”

Narrating his experience in the United States, the Grind Day hitmaker, said: “When I touched down, the organisers of BET awards picked me at the airport and then to my hotel, then we checked in. From there, we went to the BET party, that is when I met Davido [Nigerian Musician] for the first time, Michael Dapaah as well, I met a lot of people, it was great”.

He continued: “There were lots of events that we attended, going to America for the first time was an eye-opening experience. People don’t know us out there, that is what I found out, there is so much work to do; as we are back here, we just have to go in and make more music.

“I went for BET awards but we shot a couple of videos and we recorded, we made a few connections. I saw a lot of people, I saw J. Cole, they were like inches away from me; it was crazy. Rick Ross was standing in front of me, it was mad”.

Kwesi Arthur won the VGMA Hip Hop Song of the Year 2018 with Grind Day – the song that earned him a nomination for Best New International Act at the 2018 BET Awards.
