Health Minister Kweku Agyeman-Manu has entreated the public to desist from seeking medical attention at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) for non-critical cases.

The referral hospital is currently overwhelmed with cases resulting in some patients being treated on the floor and in chairs, following a directive by the Ghana Health Service to all public health posts not to turn emergency cases away even if there are no beds.

Mr Agyeman-Manu, who was addressing the media on Wednesday, 11 July 2018, raised concerns about patients neglecting clinics and other hospitals and rushing to Korle-Bu even when they have “headaches” and “stomach problems”.

“There are satellite polyclinics which are supposed to take some pressure off Korle-Bu but some of us are even refusing to go there. At the slight thing, we are in Korle-Bu,” Mr Agyeman-Manu lamented.

He said satellite facilities like the Mamobi Polyclinic, Adabraka Polyclinic, Kaneshie Polyclinic, 37 Military Hospital etc., were put up to ease pressure on Korle-Bu, adding, the hospital must only be for referral cases.
