Government has approved a $32,000 package for the national female team, Black Queens, for winning the WAFU women’s tournament last month.

“The national female sports team, the Black Queens, recently won the WAFU women’s tournament zone B, beating the host country La Cote d’Ivoire. Government has approved a package of $32,000 for the Black Queens,” Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah said at the Meet the Press series in Accra on Tuesday, 13 March 2018.

The Black Queens emerged champions of the competition after a narrow 1-0 victory over host Ivory Coast.

Janet Egyir’s goal in the first half was all it took for the Ghanaians to lift the glittering trophy at stake.

The female national teams have over the years cried over failure of successive governments to pay their winning bonuses despite their outstanding performances in competitions at all levels.
