Government has allocated eight million dollars for the hosting of the 2018 Women African Cup of Nations in Ghana, Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah has disclosed.

He said this at the Meet the Press Series in Accra on Tuesday, 13 March 2018.

According to him, government takes women’s football seriously thus the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has agreed to be the ambassador of women’s football in the country.

The 2018 Cup of Nations will be the 13th edition of the African Women Cup of Nations, the biennial international football championship organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the women's national teams of Africa.

The tournament will be held from 17 November to 1 December 2018.

The tournament also doubles as the African qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. The top three teams will qualify for the World Cup in France.
