Stakeholders in the health sector have agreed to rollout effective measures to address the increasing spate of drug abuse particularly tramadol, codeine and counterfeit drugs.

As part of the measures, an assessment on the scope of the current abuse is to be carried out by authorities comprising the Mental Health Authority (MHA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Ministry of Health (MOH), Ghana Health Service (GHS), civil society organisations and NGO’s.

This was disclosed by Minister of Health Kwaku Agyeman Manu, who was speaking at a forum on tramadol in Accra on Monday 14 May 2018.

He emphasised the importance in addressing tramadol abuse due to its devastating effects on the human resource of the country.
