The removal of former President John Mahama’s portrait from a Community Senior High School (E-block) at Chindiri in the Krachi Nchumuru District of the Volta Region, is unnecessary, the Member of Parliament for Krachi Nchumuru, John Majesi, has said.

According to him, the act is trivial and a waste of time and resources.

On Tuesday, 15 May, tension remained high between supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the locality, following an order that Mr Mahama’s image be removed from the school building.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Augustine Appiah, who reportedly gave the order for the removal, claims his action had the blessing of the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Maxwell Blagogie.

According to the DCE, the said school, though constructed by the Mahama administration, is a national property, and, therefore, no one has the right to place his image on such an asset. The Nchumuruman Community SHS was one of the schools built by the NDC as part of the 200 schools promised during the 2012 elections.

Commenting on this development on Ghana Yensom hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5FM on Wednesday, 16 May, Mr Majesi said: “I think that action undertaken was needless because that is not what Ghanaians need at the moment.

“We have several uncompleted school buildings in the region and uncompleted roads that the government must complete, not the removal of images on school building.”

“This is very trivial in my opinion,” he added.
