GPL: Match day 17 wrap up10:29, 30.Jun 2016
Match day 17 of the Ghana Premier league (GPL) came off on Wednesday June 29 across six league centres.

It was an even game in Accra as Liberty professionals drew one all with Hearts of Oak as Cosmos Dauda’s strike in the first half ensured Hearts went into the break on top, but a second half goal by Bernard Arthur brought Liberty back into the game. This result sees Accra Hearts of Oak third on the league log just one point behind league leaders WA All Stars with Liberty dropping to seventh.

In Kumasi, Kotoko had their revenge as they pipped league leaders WA All-stars by a lone goal. Captain Amos Frimpong’s solitary strike was enough to hand the porcupine warriors a victory at home pushing them to second on the table with 30 points same as rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, but with a superior head-to-head record. WA All Stars remain top with 31points despite the defeat.

In Obuasi, AshantiGold’s Shafiu Mumuni’s brace gave the home fans something to cheer about as they managed to beat Techiman City by two goals. This victory has lifted Bashiru Hayford’s side out of the relegation zone to eleventh on 19 points, just a point above Sekondi Hasaacas, who are in the relegation zone with 18 points. For Techiman City who parted ways with Coach Yussif Basigi, they have 20 points and lie tenth on the table but another slip can send them straight into the relegation zone.

In Dawu, Eric Gawu’s strike and goalkeeper Philemon McCarthy’s clearance, which landed in the back of their opponent’s net, ensured that Dreams FC beat Edubiase by two goals to nil. Despite a heavy downpour, Dreams made the most out of it and continued their impressive home form and are now sixth with 26 points. Edubiase are languishing at the bottom of the table with just 15 points from 17 games.

Aduana Stars were the heavy victors of the day as Yahaya Mohammed, Zakaria Mumuni and Samuel Adams ensured a comfortable win in Dormaa as they beat Ebusua Dwarfs by three goals to nil. The Dormaa base side lie fourth, just one point behind Hearts, who have 30 points. Dwarfs are back in the relegation zone with 17 points and lie fifteenth on the table.

In other games, Berekum Chelsea beat Inter Allies at the Berekum Golden city park. Goals from Saddick Adams and Nana Tei Horsu have given Chelsea 23 points and lifted them to ninth position. Inter Allies are twelve with just 18 points from 17 games.

Hasaacas will face Bechem United on Thursday at the Essipong stadium. The game involves WAFA and has been rescheduled due to the latter’s African commitments.
