Telecommunication operator Glo Mobile was adjudged the best in Voice Call Audio Quality by the National Communications Authority (NCA) in a survey conducted for the Central Region from 3 - 12 May 2016.
“Glo was assessed to give good speech quality while MTN, Vodafone, Tigo and Aritel were assessed to give fair speech quality,” the report disclosed.
NCA said it has “notified operators of these findings and has directed all operators to improve their coverage in some localities by October 2016.”
The survey was conducted for all the communication operators except for Expresso due to technical challenges, the report published by the NCA stated.
The report explained that Voice Call Audio Quality is the perceptibility of the conversation during a call. Voice Call Audio Quality is measured by a parameter called the Mean Opinion Score (MOS), which categorises speech samples in ranges from 0 to 5 with 0 being poor and 5 rated as excellent.
After the analyses, Glo had an MOS score of 3.51 followed by MTN (3.49), Vodafone (3.44), Tigo (3.34) and Airtel (3.26).
The NCA said in pursuing its stipulated 3G Cellular Mobile License obligations, it conducts quality of service tests nationwide to ensure that operators deliver quality service to consumers.
