Ghana- Caribbean week ends at Alisa Hotel with call for deeper diaspora ties
Ghana’s first-ever Caribbean week wrapped up at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, closing a week-long programme aimed at strengthening cultural, economic, and diplomatic ties between Ghana and the Caribbean.
The event was organized by the President’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean, His Excellency King Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, in collaboration with the Ghana Caribbean Association. It brought together government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Caribbean diaspora.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, His Excellency King Kwasi Kyei Darkwa outlined the vision behind the initiative: to move beyond historical ties and build a practical bridge for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Ghana and the Caribbean. He said the week was designed to position Ghana as a gateway for Caribbean investment in Africa and to deepen collaboration in the creative and blue economies.
Seth Terkper, representing the Chief of Staff, commended the program as a timely platform to translate that vision into tangible economic opportunities. Ambassadors from several Caribbean nations were also in attendance, underscoring the diplomatic weight of the event.
Activities at the Alisa Hotel included cultural performances, art and culinary exhibitions, and business forums focused on tourism, creative industries, and investment linkages.
His Excellency King Kwasi Kyei Darkwa and the Ghana Caribbean Association said they hope the maiden edition will become an annual fixture to sustain engagement between Ghana and Caribbean countries.
