Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the 2027 budget will include funding for a permanent solution to flooding in Accra and other flood-prone parts of the country.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament, Dr Forson referred to the devastating floods of June 29, which claimed many lives, damaged infrastructure and disrupted businesses in several parts of the country.

He noted that Ghana was not alone in experiencing such disasters, saying similar flooding had recently occurred in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Côte d'Ivoire, describing it as a phenomenon affecting the wider West African sub-region.

"The president has directed the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to develop a comprehensive and permanent solution to flooding in Accra and other flood-prone areas in the country," Dr Forson told Parliament.

He said the government's financial commitment to implementing the plan would be reflected in the 2027 budget.
