Anfoega Wadamaxe residents plead for completion of abandoned road, electricity supply
Residents of Anfoega Wadamaxe in the North Dayi Constituency of the Volta Region have appealed to the government to urgently resume and complete an abandoned road project in the community, describing the deteriorating condition of the road as a major setback to transportation, agriculture and socio-economic development.
The residents say the stalled project has left portions of the road in a worse condition than before construction began, making movement difficult and exposing nearby homes and public facilities to the risk of flooding.
Speaking to the media, a resident, Samson Ogbo, accused the contractor of abandoning the project after raising the hopes of the community.
According to him, residents initially welcomed the road project because they believed it would improve transportation and promote development. However, work came to a halt, leaving the community disappointed.
"They came and promised to work on the road, and we welcomed the development. But it now appears they have turned their backs on the promise they made to the entire community," he said.
Mr. Ogbo stated that excavation works carried out during the initial stages of the project created deep gutters and drainage channels that now threaten nearby houses and public buildings.
He noted that his residence, located opposite the Church of Pentecost, has been severely affected by the poor drainage system, adding that both his house and the church are at risk because the project was left incomplete.
"My house is the first one along the road. Last year, they dug gutters without considering the houses nearby. The Church of Pentecost and my house are now facing serious challenges because of the way the road has been abandoned," he stated.
According to him, the situation has become so dangerous that his family has been forced to relocate from their home.
He appealed to the government to intervene and ensure the completion of the road project.
"We humbly plead with the government to help us complete this road and provide us with a good road that will benefit the entire community," he added.
Residents also expressed concern over the impact of the poor road network on farming activities, saying large quantities of agricultural produce often spoil before reaching the market because of transportation challenges.
Elder Joseph Owusu of the Holy Ghost Power Prayer Centre also appealed to the Member of Parliament for North Dayi, , to facilitate the extension of electricity to the community and support efforts to complete the road project.
He said the poor road network has negatively affected church attendance, as many worshippers find it difficult to travel to the church, particularly during the rainy season.
Divine Ameka, a farmer also lamented the hardships caused by the deplorable state of the road, saying it has become a major challenge for motorists, farmers transporting produce and pregnant women who require emergency access to healthcare facilities.
The residents have therefore called on the government and the relevant authorities to expedite work on the abandoned road project and extend electricity to the community to improve livelihoods and promote development in Anfoega Wadamaxe.
