Motorists and passengers using the Dunkwa–Ayenfuri road in the Central Region have expressed deep frustration over its deteriorating condition, calling on authorities to take urgent steps to rehabilitate the stretch.

Passengers say the dusty nature of the road poses serious health risks, while drivers complaint that the road has become accident-prone and causes frequent damage to vehicles.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that road construction equipment was seen on the stretch during the 2024 election campaign period, raising hopes of imminent repairs.

However, the machinery reportedly disappeared shortly after the elections, leaving the road in its deplorable state.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Upper Denkyira West, Mr Isaac Nsiah, has acknowledged the concerns and assured residents that efforts are underway to draw attention to the issue.

According to him, since assuming office, he has formally written to the Ministry of Roads and Highways to request urgent consideration for the construction of the Dunkwa–Ayenfuri road.

“The eight-kilometre stretch links Dunkwa to Diaso, Tarkwa and other adjoining communities, making it a very important route that requires immediate attention,” Mr. Nsiah said.

Residents and road users continue to appeal to the government to prioritise the road’s rehabilitation, warning that further delays could worsen safety risks and economic activity along the corridor.
