C/R: Presbyterian Minister urges Ghanaians to embrace customs, culture and traditions
The Minister in charge of Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Bethel Congregation, Mankessim, Rev Samuel Addico, has urged Ghanaians to embrace the customs, culture and traditions of the country.
He spoke to the media during a traditional day organised by the church, where various local cultures were celebrated through dressing, among other things.
Rev Samuel Addico asserted that apart from identifying the people, the Ghanaian culture was uniquely beautiful and should not underrated.
He noted being a Christian did not automatically mean one had to be against their local culture. Here, he cited Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, respecting the culture and the traditions of Jewish community.
He appealed to the youth to embrace the local culture and ignore the foreign lifestyles they are prone to copy from social media.
The day was also set aside to celebrate a young preacher from the congregation’s Sunday School, Charlotte Afe Addo Otoo, who won an award, and was highlighted as an inspiration to her peers.
Delivering the sermon, Charlotte urged religious leaders, teachers and parents to train their children with the word of God.
The Coordinator of the Young People Guild of the church, Ebenezer Otoo – Charlotte’s father – on his part praised his daughter for the honour she had done the family, and also asked parents to encourage their children.
Rev Samuel Addico remarked that children were God's heritage entrusted into the care of parents who would one day account for them.
