Ghana commemorates International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, in collaboration with the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) and the National Communications Authority (NCA), has commemorated the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).
The event, held on December 3, 2025, was centred around the global theme "Fostering Disability-Inclusive Societies for Advancing Social Progress" and the national theme "Access to Technology and Assistive Devices for Persons with Disabilities".
Speaking at the event, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening policy frameworks and expanding social protection interventions to promote disability inclusion.
The Minister emphasised that technology is a necessity, not a luxury, for persons with disabilities, and that it determines their ability to learn, work, and participate fully in national development.
The President of GFD, Mr. Joseph Atsu Homadzi, stressed the importance of ensuring that persons with disabilities are not excluded from Ghana's digital transformation and urged institutions to design policies and digital systems that reflect the needs of persons with disabilities.
The event also featured the launch of a new book, "An Evolution of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations", which documents the history and progress of the disability movement in Ghana.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure that no person with a disability is left behind in Ghana's development agenda.
