The Deputy CEO of the Ghana GoldBod, Richard Nunekpeku, has assured that the agency won't yield to political pressure to release suspects involved in illegal gold trading.

His assurance comes amid efforts to curb gold smuggling, illegal gold trading, among other offences, with 25 individuals recently apprehended in Accra.

" At GoldBod  if you fall foul of the law, we don't know any party colour, no call from anybody, we will not succumb to any pressure, we'll continue to do our work within the confines of the law, respect the right of every individual we arrest, give them a fair opportunity to represent themselves and also bring a lawyer of their choice to represent them in court."

" We will not in any way or manner release or deal with anybody because a call had come from somewhere," he warned

He was pleased to disclose that since its inauguration, the state firm hasn't received any interference calls, reinforcing its Independence in discharging its mandate.

" And so far that message had gone down well with everybody, and we've not been receiving such calls," he stated

He emphasised that the agency will work with law enforcement to ensure the successful prosecution of offenders.
