Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant shutdown temporarily
The Management of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced the temporary shutdown of the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Plant in the Greater Accra Region.
This move follows unresolved contractual issues and the prolonged lack of critical maintenance required to sustain efficient and safe operations.
In a press statement, the GWL says it has put in place measures to minimise the impact of the shutdown.
These measures include rerouting water from alternative treatment plants and prioritising essential service facilities such as hospitals, schools, and health centres.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and assure the public that engagements are ongoing to expedite the resolution of the matter and restore normal operations”, the statement said.
GWL says it is committed to delivering safe, reliable, and continuous water supply services to our cherished customers.
It also assures the public of regular updates on progress and timelines for restoration of the plant.
The desalination plant has, over the years, served as a vital source of potable water to communities, including Teshie, Nungua, Spintex, parts of Sakumono, La, and surrounding areas
