W/R: NAIMOS conducts joint anti-galamsey operation with Blue Water Guard on Ankobra river

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Taskforce on Friday, August 22, 2025, successfully conducted a joint anti-galamsey operation with the Blue Water Guards within the Abelebo and Akango communities of the Nzema East Municipality.
The raids were necessitated by the alarming rate of devastation done by illegal miners to the Ankobra river and the general environment. It followed what NAIMOS called "very credible intelligence" from some local informants and the Blue Water Guards.
The galamseyers, initially spotted mining on the river through drone footage, fled upon "sensing and sighting the aggressive posture and huge numbers of NAIMOS and Blue water Guards".
During the raid, items and equipment used by the illegal miners, including 50 chanfang machines, polytanks, generators and pipe lines, were destroyed at the mining sites. The task force also destroyed, through burning, several makeshift structures erected along the course of the Ankobra river, and used as shelters by the galamseyers.
Others items seized by the taskforce included refrigerators, motor bikes, pvc pipes, and some excavator parts left behind.
NAIMOS emphasised they remained poised to continue such close collaborations with the increasing numbers of Blue Water Guards deployed at towns along Ghana’s water bodies in the fight against galamsey.
