Works and Housing Minister pledges urgent measures to tackle national water shortages
The Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilberto Adjei, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to swiftly confront the widespread water supply challenges affecting communities across the country.
He gave the assurance during a meeting of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources with major stakeholders in the sector. Participants included officials from the Ghana Water Company Limited and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, alongside representatives of community water systems and civil society groups.
Discussions centred on developing workable and lasting interventions to ease the persistent water shortages in various regions.
The minister noted that the difficulties confronting the sector predate the current administration, attributing them to longstanding structural and operational gaps that were not sufficiently addressed in the past. Nonetheless, he stressed that the government remains determined to fix the problems and put in place long-term solutions to safeguard water supply going forward.
He further assured residents of Teshie-Nungua that maintenance and rehabilitation works on the malfunctioning treatment facility serving the enclave are progressing steadily and are expected to be finalised in the coming days.
