Youth Minister reviews YEA programmes to accelerate job creation
The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Mr George Opare Addo, has held a strategic review session with the Board of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) as part of ongoing efforts to expand sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, followed an earlier engagement with the National Youth Authority (NYA) and formed part of the Ministry’s broader review of youth-focused institutions under its supervision.
While policy direction is determined at the ministerial level, Mr. Opare Addo emphasised that the YEA Board plays a critical role in driving implementation and ensuring that programmes deliver measurable and impactful results.
Discussions centred on the urgent need to scale up job creation initiatives and ensure value for money across all YEA modules.
Each module under the Agency was carefully assessed to determine whether it promotes sustainable livelihoods rather than short-term or temporary engagement.
The Minister stressed that youth employment interventions must translate into long-term economic empowerment and resilience for beneficiaries.
Mr. Opare Addo noted that the mandate of the YEA is directly linked to the economic survival and empowerment of young Ghanaians, making the annual strategic engagement with the Board a key policy exercise rather than a routine administrative meeting.
He described the session as a deliberate step towards accelerating job creation, strengthening programme effectiveness, and safeguarding the economic future of Ghana’s youth through well-structured and impactful employment interventions.
