C/R: Nkusukum Odambia festival turns bloody, 45-year-old man shot dead
The annual Nkusukum Odambia festival in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region took a violent turn as Acting Gyaasehene Nana Ato Gyinam allegedly shot and killed a 45-year-old man, Mr. Kwesi Melchior, in broad daylight at Mankessim.
An eyewitness told Class 91.3 FM's Nana Tawiah that tensions had been brewing after Nana Ato Gyinam reportedly warned Mr. Melchior not to participate in the festival, claiming that he was aligned with a rival faction.
Despite this warning, the victim joined the celebrations, leading to a confrontation between the chief and Mr. Melchior.
According to the eyewitness, a heated argument broke out, and Nana Ato Gyinam allegedly shot Mr. Melchior on the festival grounds.
Family members of the deceased have expressed outrage, urging the Mfantseman Divisional Police Commander to take swift action to hold the suspect accountable.
Several relatives believe the incident was rooted in an ongoing chieftaincy dispute within the Nkusukum Traditional Area, which ultimately led to Mr. Melchior’s tragic death.
The Assemblyman for the New Nkusukum Electoral Area also condemned the alleged act, appealing to law enforcement to ensure justice is served.
