Former NSB chief remanded by High Court over witness interference allegation

The former head of the National Signals Bureau(NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahen, has been remanded into the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for seven days by a High Court in Accra.
The remand followed a request by Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine during a hearing on Friday.
Dr. Ayine informed the court that intelligence reports indicated that Adu-Boahen had attempted to interfere with a key prosecution witness in an ongoing case involving alleged theft.
However, the defence counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, fiercely contested the allegation, questioning the credibility of the intelligence and arguing that his client had neither the means nor the motive to influence any witness.
The presiding judge, seeking to ensure fairness, deferred an immediate ruling in order to privately examine the intelligence evidence in-camera.
Following a review of the preliminary material, the judge ruled that Adu-Boahen be remanded for seven days to allow the state time to prepare its witness statements while safeguarding the integrity of the trial process.
In delivering the ruling, the court said the remand was necessary to strike a balance between the accused's right to liberty and the need to protect the judicial process.
Meanwhile, two other individuals charged alongside Adu-Boahen—his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, and Mildred Donkor, a former banking officer—were granted bail.
During proceedings, the Attorney General also revealed that separate investigations involving Adu-Boahen are underway at Ghana Water Limited, hinting at possible additional charges in the near future.
Kwabena Adu-Boahen is scheduled to reappear in court on Friday, May 9, 2025.
