Police arrest 10 over vandalism at Nyanyano Palace
Police have arrested ten persons in connection with the vandalism of the Nyanyano Palace in the Central Region on Sunday, following a joint security operation involving both police and military personnel.
The suspects are alleged to have stormed the palace and damaged its main entrance and metal fence during the incident. Police sources say the group was reportedly led by Nana Kwasi Annan Wiabo, described as a self-styled chief and leader of a faction involved in an ongoing chieftaincy dispute.
He is said to have escaped arrest and is currently being sought by the authorities.
Those arrested include Kojo Asirifi, 65; Alfred Awotwi, 47; Nii Armah, 43; Okoh Boas, 25; and Daniel Odartey, 20.
The others are Apau Kwabena, 61; Newland Akrasi, 28; Christian Addai, 17; Kenneth Arthur, 21; and Kojo Otabil, 62.
All ten suspects are currently being held at the Millennium City District Police Headquarters, where they remain in custody as investigations continue.
The incident has reportedly heightened tensions within the Nyanyano community.
Meanwhile, security has been intensified around the palace, which has been placed under police surveillance to prevent further disturbances.
Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect and restore calm in the area.
