Teachers at Akwatia AME Zion School in the Eastern Region are threatening to stop teaching and request transfers due to a worsening sanitation and security situation at the school.

The historic school, one of the oldest in Akwatia, has reportedly been turned into a defecation site by some individuals, raising serious concerns for both staff and students.

In an interview, Madam Ruby Odoi, the Headmistress, revealed that school staff are forced to clean human faeces from the compound almost daily.

She also noted that some perpetrators have gone as far as breaking classroom windows to defecate inside, further disrupting learning and creating an unsafe environment.

Expressing frustration, Madam Odoi warned that if the situation continues, teachers may request transfers, which could threaten the stability and operation of the school.

She appealed for urgent intervention, calling for the installation of a fence around the school and CCTV cameras to identify and hold the offenders accountable.

“The school cannot continue like this,” she said, emphasising the need for immediate measures to safeguard students, staff, and the school’s reputation.
