The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (A.M.A.) has officially opened a new District Court at its old premises, marking a significant step toward improved enforcement of city by-laws and the delivery of swift justice for minor offences, including sanitation breaches and traffic infractions.

The newly established court facility includes modern amenities such as a registrar’s office, magistrate’s chambers, docket room, typing pool, an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) office, and washrooms — all designed to meet current judicial standards.

Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, described the project as a long-held personal goal finally realised.

“This court has been on my heart from the very first day I assumed office.

Today, I am a fulfilled and happy man to witness its opening,” he said.

Mayor Allotey noted that the court’s operation would significantly support the Assembly’s broader Reset Agenda, which aims to restore discipline, order, and cleanliness across the city.

He added that the court would particularly aid the enforcement of A.M.A.’s sanitation by-laws and its "red line" policy — a directive that prohibits trading in designated no-trading zones within markets and other public areas.
