A/R: MTN spends GHS18m on maintenance and repairs due to galamsey

MTN Ghana has expressed concern about the impact of galamsey, road construction, and other activities on its operations in the Ashanti region.
From January to August 2025, the telecommunications company reported approximately 585 kilometres of underground fibre cuts in the region.
Speaking to the media at the Editors Forum organised by the company in Kumasi, Dickson Amoung-Yam, Operations Manager in the region, noted that 63 kilometres of these cable cuts adversely affected customer experience.
A total of 1,075 customers were impacted by the cuts, which hindered communication and other services.
To address these issues, the company has spent GHS18 million on maintenance and repairs, which created a significant financial burden.
Mr Amoung-Yam described the cuts as "a major concern for business" and urged the public to exercise caution when encountering fibre infrastructure.
