C/R: Kasoa MCE calls for attitudinal change towards sanitation

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly in the Central Region, Mr Seth Sabah Sewornoo-Banini, has called for a collective change in attitude toward sanitation to ensure cleaner communities and cities.
Speaking during a clean-up exercise in Kasoa, the MCE expressed concern that many residents still believe maintaining environmental cleanliness is solely the government’s responsibility.
He stressed that sustainable sanitation can only be achieved through shared commitment and civic responsibility.
Mr Banini lamented that some shop owners refuse to participate in clean-up exercises, leaving their frontages untidy and contributing to the poor sanitation situation in the municipality.
He urged business owners and residents alike to join hands in keeping their surroundings clean, noting that “cleanliness is everyone’s duty, not a government task.”
He further expressed worry about the continued littering and dumping of refuse into the Okrudu River, describing it as a dangerous practice that threatens public health and the environment.
He appealed to residents to desist from such acts and adopt proper waste disposal habits.
Stakeholders who took part in the exercise shared similar sentiments, underscoring the need for citizens to actively support the government’s ongoing efforts to rid communities and cities of filth.
