Ghana launches prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Diaspora Awards
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has officially established the Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Diaspora Awards, an annual initiative to honour individuals of Ghanaian and African descent abroad who have made significant contributions to development, culture, and global Pan-African advancement.
The launch ceremony, held on Tuesday evening, was marked by the notable presence of Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first President and founder, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Ms. Nkrumah participated in the unveiling of the awards, lending her family’s legacy to the prestigious initiative.
Also in attendance was Professor Abena Busia, daughter of former Prime Minister Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, who offered her support and endorsement of the awards.
The participation of descendants from two of Ghana’s prominent political lineages underscored the national and non-partisan significance of the initiative.
The awards are designed to recognise and strengthen ties with the global African diaspora, reaffirming Ghana’s role as a beacon of Pan-Africanism and a homeland for peoples of African descent worldwide.
Further details regarding nomination categories, criteria, and the inaugural award ceremony will be communicated by the Foreign Ministry in the coming weeks.
