Senior Presidential Staffer in charge of Energy, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has called on the Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI) to broaden its accountability mandate to cover the wider public service.

Speaking at a High-Level Business Regulatory Dialogue held at the Coconut Grove Regency Hotel in Accra, she commended the think tank’s contributions over the years but challenged it to extend its focus to financial accountability within government institutions.

Jantuah pointed to troubling revelations from Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as an area requiring greater scrutiny.

“What comes out of PAC is not beautiful, and that is financial accountability,” she stressed.

She further urged ILAPI to support government in building a comprehensive database of licenses within the regulatory and compliance space, noting that evidence-based policymaking depended on reliable data.

"We want you to help government to be able to have a data base of most of the things that we do. [In] Ghana we don't deal with data, [meanwile] evidence-based assumptions is based on data. We need the numbers, we need the names, we need everything possible through data to be able to work," she emphasised.

The dialogue, organised by ILAPI, convened policymakers, regulatory agencies, industry leaders, and civil society actors to deliberate on strengthening regulatory compliance and fostering a more enabling environment for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana.
