C/R: Kasoa Walantu residents alarmed over sewage spill at polyclinic
Residents of Kasoa Walantu in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region have raised serious concerns over a potential public health emergency following a burst sewage pipe at the Kasoa Polyclinic.
According to the residents, the damaged pipe has been leaking for several years, discharging sewage, blood, human waste, urine and other medical refuse, including used syringes, into the surrounding environment.
They say repeated complaints to the management of the polyclinic have yielded no response, leaving the situation unresolved.
The residents fear the continued spillage could trigger outbreaks of cholera, malaria and typhoid, especially during the rainy season, and have accused the Kasoa Environmental Health Department of failing to enforce sanitation standards.
Efforts by Accra News Correspondent, Samuel Addo, to obtain a response from the management of the Kasoa Polyclinic were unsuccessful, as the facility’s administrator declined to comment on the issue.
The affected residents are now calling on the municipal authorities and relevant state agencies to urgently repair the burst pipe and take immediate steps to avert a looming health crisis.
