Health Minister to brief Parliament today on COVID-19 surge

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, is expected to brief Parliament today, Tuesday, July 2, 2025, on the recent surge in COVID-19 cases reported on the University of Ghana campus.
The scheduled briefing, set for 2:00 p.m., follows a request made last week by the Minority in Parliament, who called for an urgent update on the situation as concerns grow over the potential spread of the virus within the student population and beyond.
Parliamentarians are expected to receive detailed information on the number of confirmed cases, measures being taken to contain the outbreak, and any planned interventions to protect students, staff, and the general public.
The development has sparked nationwide concern, especially as educational institutions across the country remain in session. Stakeholders are calling for clear communication and decisive action to prevent a wider outbreak.
Today’s briefing is anticipated to address not only the current situation on the Legon campus but also the broader state of Ghana’s COVID-19 preparedness and response strategy.
