Ayawaso East vote-buying committee concludes investigations today
The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s three-member committee tasked with investigating allegations of vote-buying and inducement during the party’s Ayawaso East parliamentary primary in the Greater Accra Region is expected to conclude its work today.
The committee, set up by the party’s national leadership, was mandated to probe claims of financial inducements and other irregularities that allegedly characterised the fiercely contested primary election.
Sources within the party indicate that the committee has completed hearings with key stakeholders, including candidates, party officials, polling agents, and witnesses, and is finalising its report for submission to the Functional Executive Committee (FEC).
The investigation forms part of the NDC’s broader efforts to promote transparency, fairness, and internal discipline in its internal electoral processes, especially ahead of the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election.
Party leaders say the findings and recommendations of the committee will guide any necessary sanctions or corrective measures to protect the integrity of the party’s democratic structures.
The committee recently saw a change in membership after Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga stepped aside and was replaced by former Member of Parliament and Minister, Inusah Fuseini, to ensure impartiality and public confidence in the process.
The final report is expected to be submitted later today, after which the party is likely to announce its next line of action.
The Ayawaso East primary has drawn significant public and political attention, with the outcome seen as critical to the NDC’s chances of retaining the seat in the upcoming by-election.
