Ayawaso West: John Dumelo backs new infrastructure drive to boost education, safety and community development
The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr John Setor Dumelo, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting local development efforts as the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly rolled out a new phase of infrastructure projects aimed at improving education, safety and overall community well-being.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of the projects, Mr Dumelo commended President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Local Government, and the Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly for their focus on grassroots development in one of Accra’s most strategic constituencies.
“Ayawaso West is indeed one of the best constituencies in this country, and we want it to remain as such,” the MP said, expressing confidence that the projects would trigger sustained transformation across the municipality.
The projects, which span key sectors including education, road safety, water and sanitation, are in line with the government’s broader decentralisation and people-centred development agenda.
With Ayawaso West hosting major residential, commercial and educational facilities, the constituency continues to experience rapid urban growth, increasing the demand for modern classrooms, safer roads and improved public infrastructure.
Mr. Dumelo stressed the need for quality workmanship, urging contractors and consultants to execute the projects to high standards to help attract further investment into the area.
“As much as possible, make sure the work is done and done well, so that we can attract more development into this beautiful constituency of ours,” he appealed.
He also underscored the importance of a strong maintenance culture, warning that neglect of public infrastructure could undermine long-term development gains.
The MP called on residents and stakeholders to take ownership of completed projects to ensure they benefit both present and future generations.
“Once the projects are completed, we must take very good care of them. Our maintenance culture has not always been the best, but we must improve,” he said.
Hon. Dumelo further assured constituents of his continued political and personal support, pledging to remain accessible and responsive to community needs.
“As your Member of Parliament, I am always here to support you, to offer my prayers, and to give some financial support when I am able,” he noted.
The MP joined the Municipal Chief Executive in performing the sod-cutting ceremony, symbolising the collaboration between Parliament and local government in driving development at the community level.
