Bawumia minus Kennedy, no presidency – Tema West NPP Chairman warns
The Tema West Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Kwasi Poku Bosompem, has cautioned party leaders against sidelining Kennedy Agyapong, insisting that the party’s chances of winning the presidency could suffer without his involvement.
Speaking on GhanaYensom morning show on Accra 100.5 FM with host Chief Jerry Forson, Mr Bosompem drew a sharp distinction between party delegates and the grassroots base, describing them as “two different forces” that must both be managed carefully for success.
According to him, while delegates influence internal elections, the “street” — the ordinary supporters and voters — holds significant power during national polls, and he believes Mr Kennedy Agyapong, the failed presidential aspirant, commands strong support at that level.
“The delegates and the street are not the same,” he explained.
“Kennedy Agyapong has the street, and as a party, we must be very careful how we deal with him.”
Mr Bosompem who was Kennedy Agyepong's representative for Greater Accra, Ken4President 2028 campaign, warned that any attempt to sideline the former Assin Central MP could weaken the party’s chances in future presidential elections, especially with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.
He argued that Dr. Bawumia would struggle to secure victory without Kennedy Agyapong’s influence and support.
“Bawumia without Kennedy’s involvement will make the presidency very difficult — very, very difficult,” he said.
“Bawumia needs Kennedy more than Kennedy needs him.”
The constituency chairman added that despite past disagreements within the party, now is the time for reconciliation and unity.
“We may have said a lot before, but it is time for us to come together and correct the wrongs,” he urged
