The Chairman Wontumi Campaign has reaffirmed its support for Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following the High Court judgment sentencing him to 20 years' imprisonment over illegal mining activities.

In a statement issued on Monday and sent to classfmonline.com, the campaign described the judgment as one of the most difficult moments in the political journey of Chairman Wontumi, his family and supporters.

The campaign said it fully supports the official position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its decision to pursue every lawful avenue through the appellate process.

"We fully support the party's commitment to pursuing every lawful avenue available through the appellate process, and we remain confident that the judicial process has not reached its final conclusion," the statement said.

It praised Chairman Wontumi's political career, describing him as a leader who has dedicated his time, resources and energy to strengthening the NPP, adding that his contributions "cannot be erased by a single judgment".

The campaign also appealed to supporters not to lose hope, insisting that the legal process is not over.

"As the party has rightly indicated, the legal process is far from exhausted. Chairman Wontumi's legal team will now take the appropriate steps available under the law," the statement said.

Supporters were urged to remain calm, peaceful and respectful of state institutions while the legal process continues.

The campaign further appealed to members to avoid inflammatory statements or actions that could undermine the judicial process, saying its response should reflect discipline, maturity and democratic values.

Reaffirming its commitment, the campaign said it remains firmly behind Chairman Wontumi and his family.

"We have not regretted standing with Chairman Wontumi. We do not regret it today, and we will not regret it tomorrow. Loyalty is not tested in moments of triumph; it is revealed in moments of adversity," the statement said.
