Dome-Kwabenya: We won't allow a re-run of poll-NDC warns

The Director of Legal Services for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Edudzi Tamekloe, has strongly opposed the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to order a re-run at a polling station in the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
The Dome-Kwabenya seat remains one of the unresolved contests from the 2024 general elections, with the EC citing the absence of a pink sheet as the reason for a re-run.
However, Mr. Tamekloe has argued that such an action would set a dangerous precedent.
According to him, the NDC candidate, Elikplim Akurugu, won the seat fairly, and any attempt by the EC to conduct a re-run would be unconstitutional.
“The re-run has no constitutional basis.
If we allow this, it will create a bad precedent where a mischievous Presiding Officer can deliberately engineer a similar situation,” Mr. Tamekloe stated emphatically.
He further asserted that the NDC would resist any unconstitutional actions by the EC, reiterating that the party would not permit the re-run to proceed.
Instead, Mr. Tamekloe proposed that the EC should have opted for a recount of the ballot box to confirm whether the figures on the pink sheets aligned with the actual ballots.
He also noted that the Abokobi polling station, where the re-run is planned, is a stronghold of the NDC.
He described the EC’s move as unnecessary and baseless.
“This exercise is much ado about nothing,” he added.
