The Electoral Commission (EC) is today, Tuesday, 30 April 2024, holding by-elections in the Ejisu constituency.
This follows the passing of the late Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, on Thursday, 7 March, 2024.
In the political arena, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has put forward Kwabena Boateng as their nominee to vie for the vacant seat.
Mr. Boateng emerged from a selection process that involved nine contenders on Saturday, 13 April, 2024. Tasked with preserving the party's stance, Mr. Boateng aims to fill the void left by Dr. Kumah's departure.
However, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) opted out of participating in the by-election.
Hence, Mr. Boateng's rival, in the by-election is the former constituency MP Kwabena Aduomi, who is running independently following his separation from the NPP.
The by-election began at 7am to 5pm.
