NDC Spain Branch condemns attack on nurses

A recent incident at the Ridge Hospital in Accra has sparked widespread condemnation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Spain Branch.
On Sunday, August 17, 2024, a young man named Ralph allegedly attacked nurses at the hospital, sparking outrage among healthcare professionals and the general public.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of healthcare workers in Ghana.
According to eyewitnesses, the attack occurred when Ralph's family member was being treated at the hospital.
Hanson Dartey, Branch Secretary of the NDC Spain Branch, described the incident as "unacceptable" and called for immediate action to be taken against those responsible.
"The young man involved must face the necessary sanctions for his actions," he said.
Dartey believes that long-term anger or aggravated anger towards the nurses' attitude likely led to the unfortunate spectacle.
However, Dartey also acknowledged that there have been instances where nurses have displayed poor attitudes towards patients.
"There are cases where nurses have failed to treat patients with respect and dignity," he noted.
The NDC Spain Branch has urged the Nurses and Midwifery Council to take steps to address such attitudes and promote a culture of care and compassion in the nursing profession.
The Minister of Health has condemned the attack and promised to take action, which Dartey lauded, particularly the introduction of a 24-hour call centre for patient complaints to help the public report their grievances.
A committee has been constituted to investigate the incident and make recommendations for implementation.
As the investigation unfolds, the NDC Spain Branch expects the committee to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and provide solutions to prevent such incidents in the future.
"We look forward to seeing meaningful action taken to address this issue and ensure the safety and security of healthcare workers," Dartey said
