Registrar of Scholarships Secretariat alleges mismanagement by previous administration

The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Alexander Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, has disclosed that he inherited significant financial liabilities upon assuming office from his predecessor.
I was given an empty handing-over note, he said
According to him, the debt burden runs into several millions of Ghana cedis.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Citizen Show, hosted by Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Mr. Asafo-Agyei attributed the challenges confronting the Secretariat to what he described as incompetence, arrogance, and corruption during the previous administration.
He further alleged that instances of mismanagement contributed to the financial losses, citing, for example, the involvement of Peter Mensah, husband of Gifty Oware-Mensah, a former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, who allegedly benefited from questionable transactions.
Mr. Asafo-Agyei also revealed that at least seven individuals connected to the matter have so far been arrested and are expected to face the law.
