The Ashanti Caucus of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairmen has expressed solidarity with the party's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, following his conviction.

In a statement issued on July 21, 2026, the caucus expressed concerns over the sentence of Chairman Wontumi which was handed down on Monday.

The group described Chairman Wontumi as a key figure in the NPP's growth in the Ashanti Region, praising his role in grassroots mobilisation and his commitment to the party.

"Chairman Wontumi has been the face of resilience, grassroots mobilization, and unwavering commitment to the NPP in the Ashanti Region," the statement said.

The constituency chairmen said that under his leadership, the party in the region had remained "formidable, united, and victory-driven”.

They pledged full support for Chairman Wontumi and his family during what they described as a difficult period.

"We stand in full solidarity with Chairman Wontumi and his family during this difficult time. You are not alone," they said.

The group added that their support for the regional chairman remained unchanged, saying they believed in his integrity, service to the party, and dedication to the people of Ashanti and Ghana. 

They also called on party supporters across the region to remain calm, law-abiding and united.

"We have confidence in the legal directorate of the party and in the ability of the team to pursue all available legal options," they said.

The caucus acknowledged the support shown by NPP executives, Members of Parliament and grassroots members across the country, describing the situation as a test of the party's unity.

"This is a test of our unity, and we will pass it," the statement added.

It maintained that Chairman Wontumi's contributions to the growth and strength of the NPP in the Ashanti Region could not be erased by one judgment.

"We remain resolute that truth and true justice will prevail, it's only a matter of time," the statement concluded.

The statement was signed by Kofi Acheampong, Chairman/Dean of the Constituency Chairmen Caucus, Ashanti Region, and Frederick Agyemang Mensah, Secretary of the caucus.
