World Bank to support Ghana in strengthening reforms in energy sector
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has met with a World Bank delegation led by Dr. Robert Taliercio to discuss ways to deepen collaboration and sustain ongoing reforms in Ghana’s energy sector.
The meeting, held on Monday in Accra, focused on strategies to enhance power supply reliability, improve operational performance, and ensure lasting reforms that support Ghana’s energy transition agenda.
Mr. Jinapor outlined the Ministry’s top priorities, including reducing system losses, enhancing operational efficiency, and guaranteeing affordable and reliable electricity for all Ghanaians.
He noted that these goals form a critical part of the government’s broader efforts to build a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive energy sector.
The Minister further highlighted the government’s commitment to securing additional generation capacity at lower costs, adding that this would ensure both long-term stability and affordability in the power sector.
He said the Ministry is actively pursuing strategic investments in cost-effective and cleaner energy sources to accelerate national development and promote energy access.
For his part, Dr. Taliercio reaffirmed the World Bank’s strong partnership with Ghana’s energy sector, commending the government’s reform agenda and commitment to transparency and sustainability.
He assured the Minister of the Bank’s continued technical and financial support to help Ghana achieve its energy reform objectives and transition towards a greener and more efficient power system.
The engagement reinforces Ghana’s long-standing collaboration with the World Bank in driving energy reforms that support economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
