President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he will continue to rely on God to guide him and his team a year after winning the 2016 elections.

Speaking during the thanks-giving ceremony to mark one year after the 2016 Presidential and parliamentary elections in Accra on Thursday, 7 December, Mr Akufo-Addo said: “We entered the election struggle with one statement: ‘We said the Battle is the Lord’s’. The Battle is still the Lord’s as we try to build our Ghana. May God bless us all, May God bless our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong.”

Mr Akufo-Addo secured 53.85 per cent of the valid votes cast to become Ghana’s fifth president under the fourth Republic, beating his closest rival, then-incumbent John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress.

The NPP promised Free SHS, a factory per district, jobs, restoration of allowances for teachers and nurses in training, $1 million per constituency, a dam per farming village in the three regions up north, and the setting up of a Zongo Development Fund.

Several dignitaries including a justice of the Supreme Court, Justice William Atuguba, Members of Parliament, members of the clergy, the Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, attended the ceremony.
