President of the National House of Chiefs and traditional ruler of the Asogli traditional area, Togbe Afede XIV, has pledged to work in the best interest of his people as he marks 15 years of his enstoolment. According to the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state, he is committed to working to better the lives of his people, so that they do not face extreme poverty like he did while growing up under the care of his mother who sold palm wine to make ends meet. Speaking at the Accra International Conference Centre to launch the 15-year anniversary of his chieftaincy and to also usher in the celebration of this year's Yam festival, Togbe Afede XIV said his wish is to see his people prosper. “The person through whom God worked his magic to make this day possible is my mother, who many of you have come to know recently, was a palm wine seller”, he said. “I know what it is to be deprived and I don’t wish that to remain the lot of my people; that is why in my inaugural address 15 years ago on the 4th of October 2003, I expressed the belief that my installation marked a new beginning for all of Asogli state. “More importantly, I pledged to commit myself to the best interest of my people. This pledge was in recognition of the desire, among my people, for development that creates jobs, enhances living standards, and, of course, brings happiness,” he added.
