The Upper East regional branch of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) took its turn on Thursday, 8 November to march against the proposal by the education ministry for its members to do the one-year mandatory national service after school.

A similar demonstration was held in Accra on Wednesday.

The marches are aimed at piling pressure on the government to reverse its decision.

Deputy Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum, yesterday assured the teacher trainees that the government will look into their case after receiving a petition from them at the end of their protest march in Accra.

But the group says its members will not rest until their concerns are addressed.

President of the Association of Teacher Trainees of the three regions up north, Blastus Atagape, said: “We are marching to the regional office to present a petition. Our main issue is that we do not want the National Service Scheme (NSS) to post us because they are not our main employers and, so, we want the Ghana Education Service (GES) to do the right thing”.
