Award-winning reggae musician cum medical doctor, Knii Lante, has urged the leaders of the country to stop living extravagant lives and solve basic needs of the citizenry including the provision of enough ambulances for healthcare delivery.

Speaking about his new song '52 Ambulances' on Class 91.3FM, Knii Lante told officialdom to “cool down small on the enjoyment part and save some money for those of us down here suffering. After all, the nation’s wealth is created by farmers, teachers, factory workers, even radio presenters [who in case of medical emergencies would] need ambulances. Celebrities travel every day on these roads, you never know what may happen...”

Knii Lante was speaking to Chauffeur Prince Benjamin on the Class Drive (CD) on Wednesday, 28 November 2018.

The Ghanaian singer/songwriter and instrumentalist told the story of a young girl who fell off a motorbike, ran over by a car and rushed to the hospital but though he (Knii Lante, a doctor) was on leave at the time of the accident, he had to attend to the patient because he happened to be at the hospital when she was rushed in.

The patient was given some first aid but when it came to the point where she had to be transferred to another health facility for further medical care, there was no ambulance, he recalled.

The hospital staff contacted the National Ambulance Service but they delayed and the patient’s condition deteriorated, an angry Knii Lante complained.

The medical doctor told Prince Benjamin that if Ghana were spending more on priorities such as ambulances as compared to luxury vehicles for politicians, needless deaths will be curbed.

He recounted dangerous instances where accident victims were carried to the hospital in the bucket of Pickups or in taxicabs since such vehicles are not ambulances.

The award-winning musician believes his ‘52 Ambulances’ track, which featured reggae musician Blakk Rasta, is just “an echo, an unedited replay of what I’m hearing on the ground” among the people on the streets of Accra “to the people in power.”
