The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Na Andani Yakubu Abdulai, has opposed the decisions of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs led by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, tasked to restore peace to Dagbon in the Northern Region.

The Regent, in a long statement, further criticised the Asantehene over comments to the effect that he (the Regent) was derailing the peace process in Dagbon.

In a letter dated 3 December 2018, which was addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, the Regent said: “The pronouncements of His Majesty Otumfuo before Your Excellency on 21st November expose clearly the untruths on which the ‘decisions’ of the Mediation Committee of the Eminent Chiefs is based.

“Their decisions, entirely out of tune with the principles of mediation and with Dagbon customs, appear to be aimed at achieving an agenda that should not be adopted by Your Excellency, democratic father of all Ghanaians, under the oath you took upon the assumption of office”.

The Asantehene had said that he will not allow anyone to derail the peace process in Dagbon at a meeting on Wednesday, 21 November 2018, to present the peace roadmap to President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in the presence of elders from both the Andani and Abudi royal gates.

Otumfuo added that the Regent was not supposed to be a Ya Na, “and he was supposed to be a Regent of Dagbon for a period so that the processes for the funeral of Na Mahamadu and Na Yakubu could go on and then we have a Ya Na”.

The Asantehene added that the Committee will not rest until a new Ya Na has been enskinned.
