A former Minister for the Interior, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor has described the current security situation in the country as “not very good”.

In the wake of numerous reported kidnappings at some parts of the country and the recent gun violence at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Dr Kunbuor’s verdict is that the security situation in the country “is certainly not the best from where I stand and what I have known of the quality of our security sector”.

The former Defence Minister, who was a guest on Class91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show on Monday, 11 January 2019, told the host, Benjamin Akakpo that: “I’m not sure if we are out of control yet, but I think we are there”.

He expressed worry that the security agencies are operating differently from what the 1992 Constitution says.

“People run the security sector as if there was no 1992 Constitution,” he bemoaned.

According to him, “What we are seeing today could have started some years ago, and nothing was done about it and it festered. It has reached what will call an open moment”.
